Air Purification

Whole-home air purification works best when filtration, airflow, and equipment protection are designed together. We install AprilAire media filter cabinets, Trane CleanEffects air cleaners, and REME HALO in-duct purifiers for Boulder County homes that need cleaner circulating air without choking the HVAC system.

What it is

Air purification starts with a filter that fits tightly, seals well, and allows enough airflow for the furnace, air handler, AC, or heat pump. From there, we can add stronger filtration or active purification when the home has allergies, pets, wildfire smoke concerns, odors, or sensitive occupants.

Who it is for

  • Homes with dust, pet dander, pollen, or allergy concerns
  • Owners replacing equipment who want a properly sized media filter cabinet
  • Projects where odors, smoke, or active IAQ treatment are part of the comfort goal

What we install

AprilAire media filters

A deep media cabinet gives the filter more surface area than a thin 1-inch slot. We usually recommend MERV 8 for dependable airflow, or MERV 11 when allergies, dogs, or dust load justify the added filtration. AprilAire media filters typically only need annual replacement.

Trane CleanEffects

CleanEffects is Trane's reusable whole-home electronic air cleaner. Trane describes it as removing up to 99.98% of particles and allergens from filtered indoor air, including particles as small as 0.3 micron, with third-party asthma and allergy certification.

REME HALO

REME HALO is installed in the duct system and uses UV-C with RGF's REME cell technology to create low-level airborne hydrogen peroxide and other oxidizers. RGF states that related PHI/AOT technologies have been specified in Norovirus/Norwalk and MRSA protection plans for settings including cruise lines, hospitals, schools, restaurants, and hotels. We present that as manufacturer context, not a guarantee that any home will prevent illness.

How we choose the right setup

The best IAQ upgrade is the one your system can actually move air through. We look at filter size, return ductwork, blower capacity, static pressure, equipment age, and maintenance habits before recommending a higher-MERV filter or an active purifier.

  • Check filter cabinet fit and seal so air does not bypass the media
  • Measure airflow impact before stepping up filtration
  • Coordinate purifier placement with service access and future maintenance

IAQ products can reduce particles, odors, and certain contaminants, but they do not replace source control, ventilation, cleaning, or health guidance from medical and public-health professionals.

Air Purification FAQ

What filter do you usually recommend?

For most homes we start with a MERV 8 filter because it protects equipment and keeps airflow healthy. If you have allergies, dogs, or more dust load, we often step up to MERV 11 after checking the system's airflow and static pressure.

Is a higher MERV filter always better?

Not always. Higher filtration can catch smaller particles, but it also adds resistance. The right answer depends on the filter cabinet, ductwork, and blower. AprilAire media filters are typically replaced once per year.

What is Trane CleanEffects?

Trane CleanEffects is a reusable whole-home electronic air cleaner. Trane states that it can remove up to 99.98% of particles and allergens from filtered indoor air, including particles as small as 0.3 micron.

What is REME HALO?

REME HALO is an in-duct active air purifier from RGF. It uses UV-C and REME cell technology to create low-level oxidizers that move through the ducted space and help reduce airborne and surface contaminants. It is an IAQ tool, not a substitute for cleaning, ventilation, handwashing, or medical infection-control guidance.
