A few months ago I went to a customer’s home to perform a furnace and AC tune up. This was an interesting call; the year before they needed a new furnace and they didn’t buy from us.
Well, the company that sold the furnace to them also moved it from the center of the house to one side, which the customers thought that was great! Let me explain why their system doesn’t work now.
When the original unit was installed, the duct work was laid out and installed for a 3.5 ton or 4 ton system or maximum air flow for cooling. This system had duct work sized for 2 tons of air each way. The company moved the furnace, but didn’t change the duct work. Now this owner has a delivery system for 2 tons of cooling or half the capacity.
Duct systems are designed to handle a certain capacity. Make sure the equipment is sized correctly for your home or business. Over sizing can cause other problems. (Over heating or limiting, frozen coils, AC).
